Second Life. The remarkable metauniverse developed my Linden Labs. I have been "playing" the game since about Thanksgiving and have really been active since about Christmas.
I will write more about it soon. Just wanted you to know i hadn't dropped off the face of the earth completely. I have just moved to my other life.

Christian Coalition President-Elect Steps Down

The President-Elect of the the Christian Coalition has stepped down.

The Rev. Joel C. Hunter, pastor of a Florida megachurch, was named the group’s president-elect in July. He was to have taken over the presidency in January from Roberta Combs, who is also the chairwoman of the Christian Coalition’s board. Mrs. Combs will continue in both positions now.

Over the last few years, Dr. Hunter, senior pastor of Northland Church in Longwood, Fla., has gained a reputation as an evangelical leader seeking to expand the agenda of conservative Christian activists from issues like abortion and same-sex marriage. (NYT).

It appears that the good christians can't get themselve past being hate mongers and try to do something good for the world.

The UCLA police officer videotaped last week using a Taser gun on a student also shot a homeless man at a campus study hall room three years ago and was earlier recommended for dismissal in connection with an alleged assault on fraternity row, authorities said.... In May 1990, he was accused of using his nightstick to choke someone who was hanging out on a Saturday in front of a UCLA fraternity.

And before UCLA scapegoats this gent and thinks the affair is over, let's not forget that the UCLA written policy says it's okay to use taser against passive resistance. Somebody more than this copy needs to pay.

New Line Cinemas has decided to move forward with the film adaptation of "The Hobbit" and another prequel without the services of Peter Jackson. The dispute is over money. Let's hope this works itself out. I don't think I would really pay to see these movies if Peter Jackson doesn't make them.

CA Supremes OK broad Web Libel immunity

Web sites that publish inflammatory information written by other parties cannot be sued for libel, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday.

The ruling in favor of free online expression was a victory for a San Diego woman who was sued by two doctors for posting an allegedly libelous e-mail on two Web sites.

Superman Returns - Yes He Does!

I got to see the Tuesday night 10PM premier of Superman Returns. I am just a big geek at heart and really loved the original series with Christopher Reeve.

The movie started with some catching up on who each of the characters are. This only took a few minutes. Then we went right into the new story.

There were a lot of familiar things in this movie. Most of all the use of John Williams score from the original series. It helped set the tone and moved you along really well. Also we got to see Superman stare into Lois Lane's eyes and take her flying. This was unbelievable. The whole time I was watching the movie I kept thinking that I was hearing Christoper Reeve. It was so spooky how Brandon Routh sounds so much like Christopher Reeve.

I am not going to give you any spoilers. I will link you to another review and comments about the movie. He gives you a spoiler with no warning. DON'T believe it. Link here to Joe.my.God.

Rep Charles Rangel of New York, the incoming chair of the House Ways and Means committee, wants to reinstate the draft. Love him or Hate him, you have to admire a man who stands up for what he believes and keeps bringing it to the table. (Oh wait, the same could be said for the President and the nutso candidates he keeps proposing for the Federal Judiciary.)
Reading the reasoning behind the draft, I agree with the esteemed gentleman from New York.

This is amazing that the current administration was using Kissinger as a source of information for the policy in Iraq. Didn't we get enough of him and the failed policies in Vietnam. Maybe that is why President Bush is now drawing comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam.

The fourth year American UCLA student, who happens to be of Iranian decent, will be suing UCLA alleging "brutal excessive force" and false arrest, according to his lawyers. Update on the story is available here. To make this story more unbelievable, it is reported today on Americablog that UCLA has a written policy regarding the use of the TASER. To further echo what is being said at Americablog, Someone needs to get fired over this policy. It is truly unbelievable.

The story gets a whole lot more interesting if the student is Muslim, and he was tased for simply refusing to stand up (while brown). In America, even being an asshole isn't sufficient justification for the authorities to use violence against you. At least it wasn't until just lately. This incident isn't just about a student at UCLA, it's about what's happened to our country over the past six years and what it means, anymore, to be American.

I'm going to be writing a much longer piece about this later. In the meantime, if you haven't watched the video of this student being tased last night in the UCLA library, someone recorded it on their cell phone (amazingly enough), you need to watch this. It's about 5 minutes long, and you should watch the entire thing. It's horrific, and needs to be seen, and shared. You can share this video with others by emailing them this Web address:

Iraq - it's all getting worse

Today - 150 people kidnapped all at once. Can it get any worse? I hate to say it, but it looks like we really might need to put in more troops to get this under control. It appears that the Iraqi's can't do it yet and the number of troops we currently have there are not able to keep up.

Dont' get me wrong they are doing great with limited resources, but they need some help.

It seems that newly elected Democratic Representative from NY, who squeaked by Republican Sue Kelley by2% of the vote, received a sizable contribution from a private citizen. What makes this even more interesting is that John Hall was the front man for 70's pop band Orleans. Mr. Hall reportedly made a stink several years ago, when Dubya started using the Orleans single "Still the One" as his campaign entrance music without permission.

The Republicans have chosen Mel Martinez of Florida to head the Republican National Committee. You remember him, it was the legal counsel to his office that wrote the memo that outlined the political advantages of getting the Republican Party involved with the Terri Shiavo case. (Okay - can you say Smarmy and the word of the day is Panderer).
" Martinez, of course, supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, and
expressed his belief in June 2006 that it shouldn't be left up to the states: "It isn't good

Nancy Pelosi has thrown her weight into the House Majority leader race. She has written a letter of support for Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha.
I must admit that I like John Murtha. I was really impressed with the support that he generated when he stood up to the White House and the House Republican nut job. However, I found some very interesting reading yesterday. Mr. Murtha has appeared on CREWs list of 5 members to watch for corruption. CREW has listed several questionable things about Mr. Murtha's activities.
It might be advisable in this day for Speaker to be Pelosi to be careful of who she is supporting. Members of Congress should be above reproach and free of scandal. Ask the Repubs.
Steny Hoyer might have run against you in your bid for House Minority Leader, but he could be your best bet going into this new adventure.

From the perspective of GOP leaders like Newt Gingrich, the White House completely botched the Rumsfeld departure. The President also lied to the media about Rumsfeld shortly before the election. Been wondering what finally made it happen and today's New York Times gives the credit to Rice:

Hadley, quietly steered the White House toward replacing Donald H. Rumsfeld with Mr. Gates, who had worked closely with Ms. Rice under the first President Bush. One senior participant in those discussions, who declined to be identified by name while talking about internal deliberations, said, “everyone realizes that we don’t have much time to get this right” and the first step is to get “everyone driving on the same track.”

Rice "quietly steered" it. Need more information. We know she's best friends with Bush and Laura. We also know that Bush is incapable of making any serious decisions. He can't admit failure. So, did Rumsfeld get out-maneuvered by a woman who he has spent the last six years dissing? Or is this just spinning to give Condi the credit for vanquishing the evil Rummy.

Either way, the big loser is Cheney. He should be watching his back now, too.

GOP pollster makes predictions — half right, half wrong, but still loses job.
We spent election night at CNN’s blog slumber party. Exciting as that sounds, all we could do was keep asking ourselves the same question over and over.
Oh yeah, those fake predictions we made, were on the money.
Other highlights from our insane all-night election coverage, including a dispatch from Jim Webb’s never ending victory party.
Of course, the party did eventually end — for George Allen … Macacaship Down!

It appears that in a recent survey done by Beliefnet, the evangelicals are loosing their rabid attachment to the Republican party.
The evangelicals polled viewed The Reverend Billy Graham favorably by 86 percent. Would this have anything to do with his staying out of the political limelight. In the same vein, the ever evil Rev. Jerry Falwell is only rated favorably by 17%.
James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, issued a statement this week that said "many of the Values voters of '04 simply stayed at home this year" because the Republican Party has "consistently ignored the consitutuency that put them in power." Well D'oh. They were using you.

Battle Star Galactica Season 3

There is very little television that I watch on a regular basis. I try to keep up on the new Battlestar Galactica. I got hooked on it during Season 2. I abused my poor iPod by downloading the mini-series, Season 1 and Season 2. I had my iPod in my face watching BG all the time for about 10 days straight. It is fun and entertaining. It also has many parables buried in it that have some value to us today in our current World situation. I am anxious to see who the other 5 models of Cylons turn out to look like.

Bill in Exile is a very interesting blog. The blog is maintained by Scott. It is an ongoing conversation between Scott and Bill, who is currently incarcerated in the Federal penal system. They were a couple at one point I believe. The blog has some interesting photos and letters from Bill. Scott also posts some right on political commentary and photos. He hit is yesterday with the photo at left. I think that this photo is the ultimate "wet dream" of all of us who are totally fed up with the current administration. Thanks Scott..

News on the Mass Constitutional Convention

Blue Mass Group was live-blogging all day yesterday keeping everyone updated on the status of the Constitutional Convention in Massachusetts. It looks like the "gay marriage" question won't be returning to the population for a vote. The ConCon voted to adjourn until Jan. 2, 2007 yesterday. That being the last day of the current legislative session. They have to vote on it that day or it will go down to defeat for now.

It looks like the Democrats will finally get control of the Senate today. George Allen of Virginia, known by many as "Senator Macaca," "has no intention of dragging this out," according to a close aide of the outgoing Senator.
